real parties: yo gabba gabba {featuring muno}

7.12.2011
My daughter Caitlin is about as big a Yo Gabba Gabba fan as a one year old can be.  I probably won't win mom of the year for this, but from the day we discovered that a boom box full of monsters and a tray of cheerios would keep her entranced for a half hour, we've happily let it become part of our morning ritual.  And so, while I'm not in the habit of posting licensed theme parties, I had to make an exception for this gem from photographer Carrie Geddie.  By focusing on one character {muno} and handcrafting the details herself, she was able to keep a simple and coordinated look.  It's all quite cute, and really... as she says herself in the details below: "Who doesn't love a tall red cyclops?!"

My twin boys, Henry & Matt, are turning 2 and since they are slightly obsessed with Yo Gabba Gabba, we just had to find a way to incorporate their favorite tv show without it being cheesy.  Instead of a pre-fab party with all the Yo Gabba Gabba decorations available online and in stores, we decided to throw a custom Muno party. Who doesn't love a tall, red cyclops?!?

I know what's important, so I started with the cake. ;-)  The boys had to have an awesome cake and they loved it.  My favorite local bakery, Blue Moon Bakery in Cary, NC, did a fantastic job with the design, as well as the baking - the yellow cake with raspberry filling was a HUGE hit.  Instead of a traditional Happy Birthday banner, I created a Razzle Dazzle bunting to celebrate one of Muno's favorite phrases.  We served Dazzleberry Lemonade and decorated with Muno-inspired balloons.  My kids took one look at the balloons and hugged and kissed them - too cute!  I also purchased Muno favor bags, animal cracker boom boxes & Muno treat bags from aKymKreation on Etsy.com.  The treat bags were filled with red licorice and were snapped up in a hurry.

This is such a clever way to do an otherwise totally overwhelming theme. Plus it looks like there was a party in someone's tummy :-) Fun. Thanks for sharing!
